  6. I.    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:  
  7.  
  8. In order to install the executable game to Windows 3.1, the SETUP ROUTINE requires three 
  9. blank formatted 3.5" HD floppy disks.
  10.  
  11. 1)  First, extract the DISK files by typing PKUNZIP GAZ.ZIP
  12.  
  13.     You should see three disk files DISK1.ZIP, DISK2.ZIP and DISK3.ZIP
  14.  
  15. 2)    Go to the directory on your hard drive where DISK1.ZIP is located.
  16.  
  17.     Insert a blank 3.5" disk in drive A: (assuming A: is your floppy disk drive)
  18.     Type PKUNZIP DISK1.ZIP A:
  19.     Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk, remove the disk from drive A:
  20.  
  21.     Insert another blank 3.5" disk in drive A:
  22.     Type PKUNZIP DISK2.ZIP A:
  23.     Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk, remove the disk from drive A:

  25.     Insert another blank 3.5" disk in drive A:
  26.     Type PKUNZIP DISK3.ZIP A:
  27.     Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk:, remove the disk from drive A:

  29. 3)    You have now completed creating your Gazillionaire floppy disk installation set.
  30.     Follow the instructions below to install Gazillionaire onto any Windows 3.1 compatible
  31.     computer.  NOTE:  You may now delete all the .ZIP files, such as GAZ.ZIP, DISK1.ZIP,
  32.     DISK2.ZIP and DISK3.ZIP.  This will free up over 6 MB of hard disk space.

  34. 4)  To install Gazillionaire from the FLOPPY DISKS follow these instructions:
  35.  
  36.     i)    Start Microsoft Windows
  37.     ii)    Insert DISK # 1 in drive A:  (assuming A: is your floppy disk drive)
  38.     iii)    From Program Manager, select FILE menu and choose RUN
  39.     iv)    Type A:\SETUP
  40.  
  41. II.     RUNNING THE GAME:
  42.  
  43. The installation has been completed.  Now it is time to play the game.
  44.  
  45.     i)     Go to the "Gazillionaire" program group.
  46.     ii)    Double click on the icon labeled "Gazillionaire".
  47.     iii)    The game "Gazillionaire" should run.

  60. III.       PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
  61.  
  62. a)  Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later.  3.5" HD disk drive.
  63. b)  A 386, 486 or Pentium-based DOS-compatible computer, VGA graphics, color monitor.
  64. c)  11 Megabytes of hard disk space.
  65. d)  4 Megabytes of RAM.
  66. e)  OPTIONAL:  Sound Blaster compatible sound card for sound and music.
  67.  
  68. NOTE:  The graphics look best if you are running in 256 color mode.  If you run the game and the 
  69. planets do not look like real planets with hundreds of colors, then you are probably running in 16 
  70. color mode.  You should use VGA, 640 by 480 graphics, 256 colors, small fonts.  To change your 
  71. system settings (Windows Setup), contact your computer manufacture's technical support.  They 
  72. should help you install the necessary graphics drivers.

  74. IV.      POSSIBLE ERRORS:
  75.  
  76. If you encounter an error not on this list, please let us know.
  77.  
  78. 1)  If you have any trouble with the display, text size or colors, try switching Windows to VGA 
  79. graphics.  "Gazillionaire" looks best if you use VGA, 640 by 480 graphics, 256 colors (8 bpp), 
  80. small font size.
  81.  
  82. 2)  All programs running under Microsoft Windows share resources, and this tends to cause 
  83. problems.  If you encounter any problems, try closing down any power hungry applications like 
  84. Photoshop or MS Word.  They may be stealing resources from "Gazillionaire".  If you are still 
  85. having problems, try rebooting your computer and running "Gazillionaire" without any other 
  86. programs active at the same time.

  88. 3)  "Gazillionaire" uses a lot of memory, so if you are having memory problems, you should go to 
  89. the Windows Program Manager, double click on the MAIN program group icon, double click on 
  90. CONTROL PANEL icon, double click on 386 ENHANCED icon, select VIRTUAL MEMORY.  
  91. Check to see that your VIRTUAL MEMORY is set to at least 6 megabytes.
  92.  
  93. 4) If you try installing "Gazillionaire" on your hard drive and get the message "Error - Could not 
  94. copy file: VER.DL_", then just go to your Windows directory and delete file VER.DL from the 
  95. hard drive.  Try installing "Gazillionaire" again.  It should install without a problem, and don't worry, 
  96. "Gazillionaire" will install a copy of VER.DL and VER.DLL on your hard drive.  This same rule 
  97. applies any time you get the message "Error - Could not copy file: ".  Just make sure not to 
  98. delete a newer version of the .DLL or .VBX files.
  99.  
  100. 5) "Gazillionaire" copies several .VBX files and .DLL files into your Windows system directory.  If 
  101. you already have these files installed, the installation program will NOT overwrite them.  Other 
  102. Windows applications may also be using these same files.  If you have older versions of these 
  103. files already on your hard drive, the older versions may not be compatible with the new versions.  
  104. This is a design problem with Microsoft's component software system.  Microsoft has not yet 
  105. figured out how to solve this problem.  If you encounter this problem, you need to delete the older 
  106. .VBX and .DLL files yourself using the FILE MANAGER.  Be sure to check the version number 
  107. before deleting any of the .VBX and .DLL files in your Windows System directory and Windows 
  108. directory.  NOTE:  We have included WPS.EXE to help you check the version numbers.  Just go 
  109. to FILE MANAGER, select RUN, and type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WPS.EXE.  WPS allows you 
  110. to load in any file from any directory and check its version number.
  111.  
  112. Once you have deleted any outdated files, try installing "Gazillionaire" again. The "Gazillionaire" 
  113. setup program will install all the .VBX and .DLL files required to run the game.  Listed below are 
  114. the .VBX and .DLL files we use in connection with "Gazillionaire".   All these files are from either 
  115. Microsoft Visual Basic version 3.0 or VideoSoft VSVBX version 4.0.  If you have any questions 
  116. regarding later versions, please contact either Microsoft or VideoSoft.
